If you live with the colors in your home that you like, but need more fresh and interesting, what can you do besides repainting the whole wall? You have some nice options that are easy, inexpensive and create a professional look. Many options are at your fingertips. The easiest way is to use a technique called sponge painting. It really is what it says – the color of the sponge on the existing wall and you are done. This is a very easy process with great results but you have to use the right additive to get the look you want.
Sponge painting is used to create a mixture of soft colors together to give the illusion of color. You begin this process to mix your accent paint with an extender (purchased on hardware or paint shop), this will extend the drying time and make the paint translucent. Using this product allows you to get the desired effect of a soft mixture of colors together. Note designer: I always use a small amount of wall color with other colors, and I never use more than three colors. Do not be afraid to colorize the color for this technique, be sure to work in a small area with a wet edge. The second interesting look that I really like is to make diagonal or horizontal stripes on the wall, this time without paint.

For this technique you simply use a polyurethane sealer … a different sheen than the sheen on the wall today. I often use luster, or you can do otherwise if you currently have a shinny wall. You decide how wide you want the strip to be removed and apply a polyurethane sealer above each other line and you have a finished product. It is subtle but very striking. Note designer: make sure the line is straight; it will be very easy to see if they are not. And carefully plan how you set the size of each line by considering how they will end up at the corner and at the other end of the room. The artist’s tip: to get the perfect edge on the cassette tape use a small amount of polyurethane sealer with a paint brush and cover the ends before you start painting. This technique will change the look of any room, and both are cheap and fun to do. You can use it to do the whole room or just a wall accent.
