Fun with Letter Y

By Shara Lawrence-Weiss

Today, while we were waiting for the dentist, I took my four year old and 11 month old outside for a walk.

I said, “Hey! I’m going to look for letter sticks again today. Would you like to help me?” We quickly found a large Y and my son said, “Now let’s find the mommy and brothers and sisters.” He decided we needed a family of Y’s to complete our project.

We located six Y sticks – some large, some small. When we got home we lined them up from biggest to smallest and named them after each family member.

We talked about upper case and lower case.

We created words:

lower case yes

Here’s a soothing song I found on Youtube to go along with our Y activity. We know how much music compliments literacy development!
