He want a book!

By Shara Lawrence-Weiss

Our third Mini Human has been slow in his growth toward book-loving. Rick and I have remained consistent in offering books around the home, placing literacy related materials in every room, reading with our other kids on a regular basis, encouraging our son to read, etc.

At the same time we decided not to push him. We trusted that he would grow into book appreciation over time. It’s been a slow process but we’re starting to see this pay off now. Our son is four years old and he now asks for books to be read almost every evening. In fact, he set up a bed on our floor the other night and we walked into our room to find him flipping through the Scholastic school book order forms. He asked me to buy him just one book.

    Love how you did this
and the confidence and positive expectation to nurture him but not push him:)

    • Thanks, Ava. I just now saw this comment – sorry I’m so late in replying. There were times that I wanted to push him but I held back. Things are getting better, daily. He asked me to to read two books with him last night, before bed.
